I have a sweet thumb.

I really really love flowers! I keep trying to grow potted flowers, but I usually end up killing them. When flower pot cakes started popping up online, I had to make one! I wouldn’t let these die! My Mom’s birthday was this month, so I decided to make her a flower pot cake!

This was a good chance to practice gum paste flowers… and by practice I mean try for the first time. I’ve watched so many tutorials, I knew how to make them in theory, just hadn’t had the opportunity to put my knowledge into practice yet. They were time consuming, but so pretty!

I made the pot like How to Take It‘s tutorial. If I did this cake again, I would just cover the whole cake in fondant rather than applying a strip to the side. It looked great right after I made it, but the fondant slid down a little overnight. Covering the whole thing would eliminate the seam and prevent sliding.

I think it’s safe to say my thumb is more sweet than green!
