My cake decorating skills often trick people into thinking that I am artistic, but I am definitely not. I struggle with the art parts of decorating, like mixing colors, sculpting and free-hand designs. I’m just a great tracer!
Watercolor and oil painting inspired cakes have been popping up online and look awesome when they are done well. When I got an order for a sailing themed cake that also needed to be travel friendly (ie. not tiered or 3D), I thought it would be the prefect time to try one.
This cake was based on a painting of a sail boat I found online. I love the rich colors and textures that mimic the oil paint! I’m still not qualified to paint on a canvas, but I think my cake painting turned out nice! (Also, you can’t eat a canvas, so this is inherently more fun.)
